Marie-Galante is an island in the Caribbean Sea belonging to the French Overseas Department of Guadeloupe being located 30 km from the latter, with an estimated population of 12,009 inhabitants in 2006, and an area of ​​approximately 158.01 square kilometers.

She was named by Christopher Columbus by the help of Nicolas Galof Galante in the conquest of it on November 3, 1493, during his second voyage to the West Indies being the second largest island that landed in this second journey.
