Patillas is a municipality of Puerto Rico located in the southeastern coast.

Since the mid-XVIII century, a relatively large population has been occupying the Valley of Patillas, namely to take advantage of the valley’s agricultural potential.

In 1811, Ms. Adelina Cintrón, an important sugar farmer of the valley, donated almost 8 acres of land for the town’s foundation.

The name of Patillas is believed to derive from the tribal name given to a certain type of watermelon, which is very abundant in the area.

This coin belongs to the series of “Pesetas Boricua” of the island of Puerto Rico, very popular in the Caribbean Island.
