The Soto Nations are
the spiritual leaders of the Anishinabe Nations, the autonym often used by the Odawa,
Ojibwe, and Algonquin peoples that recognize North America as the Great Turtle
Island. They all speak closely related Anishinaabe languages, of the Algonquian-language
family.
According to Anishinabe
tradition the people migrated from the eastern areas of North America, and from
along the East Coast. In myth, the homeland was called the Great Turtle Island

longevity and carries the world on her back. On the reverse is featured another
vital symbol of the rebirth, the Thunderbird.
