The Soto Nations are the spiritual leaders of the Anishinabe Nations, the autonym often used by the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Algonquin peoples that recognize North America as the Great Turtle Island. They all speak closely related Anishinaabe languages, of the Algonquian-language family.

According to Anishinabe tradition the people migrated from the eastern areas of North America, and from along the East Coast. In myth, the homeland was called the Great Turtle Island

This one ounce .999 fine silver round was minted through official commission by the American open Currency Standard. It represents the turtle, which in the native traditions symbolizes longevity and carries the world on her back. On the reverse is featured another vital symbol of the rebirth, the Thunderbird.

In the issue statement by Chief Kaneekaneet:

“We, the peoples of the Soto Nation and the original traditional nations within and united with, will proudly utilize this barter piece featuring “Peeashe”, our brother the thunderbird and the Great Turtle Island. “

This piece is planned as the first in a series of pieces recognizing the many nations of the Anishinabe.
