The Principality of Seborga consists of about 14 square kilometers on the Italian Riviera near France. It became a Principality in 1079. In 1729 it was sold to the King of Sardinia. Unfortunately someone forgot to do the paperwork so the change was never officially registered with the Kingdom of Sardinia.  Seborga was not mentioned in the Act of Unification of Italy or subsequent acts, thus it still considers itself independent. It has its own flag, coins, stamps, passports, and automobile license plates. In 1995 and 1996 it issued its first and only coins since the 17th century.  The mintages of all the coins were limited and are now quite difficult to obtain.

Viinamarisaar is a small island of 3396 acres in the Baltic Sea. Viinamarisaar, except for a short time during World War II, has been inhabited since the 1300s. The original settlers were Swedes who lived an isolated pastoral life on the island. Many Baltic Sea Islands operated as tight knit self-sufficient communities that were completely isolated from the world. Some of the more well known islands included Ruhnu, Parkis and Saarnaki. They fished, cultivated the land and raised cattle. While research on Viinamarisaar does not specifically indicate, it is likely the islanders were much like those who lived on the well documented Ruhnu. Radio Sweden went to Ruhnu in the early 1940s finding the lifestyle had changed little in over 400 years. They were a religious people living by a strict code of conduct not unlike the Swedes of the 1500s. They had little contact with the outside world and lived self-sufficient simple lives in a number of communities on Ruhnu.

Dominion British West Florida 1 Farthing 2006

This micronation was created in November 2005. It claims to represent an historic continuum with the real British colony of the same name that was established in 1763 in areas of present-day Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida, as part of the outcome of the French and Indian War. The Dominion claims that changes in ownership subsequent to 1763, which culminated in the eventual acquisition of the territory by the United States in 1810, were illegal.
